A
little bit of history about the "From Our Hands"
Show...
The "From Our Hands" folk art show began in
the summer of 1999 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. A collaborative
effort of artists Lori Ann Baker-Corelis & Sharon Andrews
along with a few other artists and friends.
The
maiden show was a "wholesale" show of a small group of
artists and antique dealers who each invited their best
shops and galleries. This "open to the trade only" show was
a way to offer these stores one of a kind and very limited
work they could not find at major gift shows. In 2001 the
show was wonderfully highlighted in an article in "Mary
Engelbreight's Home Companion" magazine when the sisters
of "Twin Concepts", a store in California,
flew in to "shop the show."
Out
of this first "trade show" grew the "Christmas From
Our Hands" show open to the public each November, as
well as seasonal Spring & Fall shows. While the tradeshow no
longer exits, many shop owners still attend and the public
enjoys the chance to meet the artists in person.
In
2002 Sharon Andrews left the show for other artistic
pursuits, while Diane Pawuk of "Bear Paths" in Cleveland,
Ohio joined to help Lori Ann carry on the shows. Then in
2004 Lori Ann decided to spend more time with her family and
business; handing over the helm to event planner Kathy
Wright, an Ohio native. Kathy is continuing the original
vision and traditions of the "From Our Hands" show along
with adding her own creative ideas, completing the move from
Mount Vernon, OH to Columbus, OH, starting a series of
“create your own folk art” workshops and adding even more
creatively wonderful folk artists & antique dealers to the
show.
So
look for even more wonderful things to come...
